Volvo unveiled its all-new five-door hatchback, dubbed the V40.
Parkers Pick – V40
- What is it? A five-door premium hatchback aiming to steal sales from the likes of BMW’s 1 Series hatchback and the Audi A3 Sportback.
- Vital stats and facts: Engines available will include a low-tax 1.6-litre diesel engine that emits just 94g/km of CO2, while returning a claimed 78.8mpg on average. There will also be a T5 petrol engine that produces 254bhp, which will get the V40 to 62mph in 6.7 seconds. See what sister title Car Magazine thinks here.
- Why would you buy it? It’ll be safe, comfortable, well-built and pretty good to drive. It’ll also be seriously efficient and cheap to run for company car drivers and private buyers. Assuming you go for the diesel, that is.
- Why wouldn’t you? It might not be quite as involving as cars such as BMW’s 1 Series. Volvo has a history of building cars that do everything perfectly well but lack a little excitement.
- Prices and launch date: Production is expected to start in May, with prices predicted to be around £19,000.
