Kia EV6 boot space, practicality and safety
- Excellent room front and rear
- Long, wide, easy-to-load boot
- A large car that’s not easy to see out of
The Kia EV6 is a large car. Consequently, it’s commodious inside with ample leg and elbow room for the driver and passengers – unlike many cars in this price range, it’s also a generous five-seater, thanks to its wide rear bench. A flat floor also helps with the feeling of space for rear-seat passengers, as there’s no central tunnel to compromise foot room.
If you specify the sunroof, the feeling of space will also be enhanced thanks to the extra light it brings, at least for occupants in the front. Unusually the EV6 does not have a full-length panoramic roof, but the sunroof does open. Considering it’s blessed with coupe-like styling and a swoopy roofline, there’s also a reasonable amount of headroom, although six-footers might find their head rather close to the roof lining.
Boot space and storage
As you can see from the picture above, the EV6 has a large and well-shaped boot. With a capacity of 490-litres it will swallow your weekly shopping with room to spare – while its variable-height boot floor allows you to maximise space or give you a flat floor.
All models benefit from an additional luggage area under the bonnet – it’s 52 litres in the rear-wheel drive model and 20 litres for four-wheel drive versions. As you’d expect, the rear seats are split 60:40, and also come with a ski hatch, meaning you can juggle the needs of rear-seats passengers and luggage.
Is it easy to park?
The EV6 is a larger-than-average car – similarly sized to a Skoda Octavia – and it’s not particularly easy to see out of, especially with poor over-the-shoulder visibility. Length is 4,680mm and width is 1,880mm, which means you’ll be shuffling it into typical UK parking spaces, although an excellent 360-degree camera system makes parking easier than it might be. The rear view mirrors are also unusually good.
Safety
- Yet to be tested by EuroNCAP
- Lots of safety equipment
- Impressive driver-asssistance technology
The EV6 hasn’t been tested by EuroNCAP, but don’t let that put you off buying one, as it’s stacked with driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technology. We expect it to score five stars, especially considering the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which shares its platform did so when tested in 2021.
Top-line safety tech includes:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Forward Collision Avoidance Assist
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Lane-Keeping assist
- Driver fatigue warning
- Traffic sign recognition
