We also have a separate Ford Ranger Raptor dimensions page, as this high-performance off-road variant is substantially different to the standard Ranger.

Ford Ranger (11-22) capacity & size

4.5 out of 5 4.5

The Ford Ranger's cargo bed is substantially sized, and its towing and payload ratings are right at the top of the pickup truck class.

It comes in three body styles: Regular Cab (single cab), Super Cab (crew cab) and Double Cab.

There is also a chassis cab version based on the single-cab body, suitable for more specialist conversions.

Ford Ranger body styles explained

The Ranger Regular Cab - aka single cab - has just two seats and two doors, but the longest load area.

The Ranger Super Cab - aka crew cab or extended cab - has regular front seats and occasional rear seats, accessed via smaller doors. The load bes on this model is over 25cm longer than the Double Cab.

Ford Ranger Wildtrak dimensions

The Ranger Double Cab is the bestselling version, and most popular with lifestyle buyers, as it combines a still usefully big load bed with a cabin comfortably large enough for five people.

It has the shortest load space of the three Ranger variants, and but beats every current rival for loading length (the only exception being the 1,610mm SsangYong Musso Rhino, which has a longer cargo area than the Ranger Wildtrak only).

More info about the Ford Ranger's load area

All models measure 1,139mm between the arches, which means you shouldn't have any problem fitting a Euro pallet in the back. You'll probably need a forklift though, as every current model has four-wheel drive and a minmum loading height of 835mm.

The tailgate does fold completely flat, making access to the cargo bed easy, and there are fixing points to help secure any load.

The load area can also be equipped with a three-pin plug socket, if required, while there are a variety of load canopy options, including roller-shutters and hardtops.

Ford Ranger payload and towing capacity

Ford Ranger weight capacity explained

The Ranger can handle payloads from 1,033kg to 1,269kg, depending on model and year; those figures are for the 2016-onwards Euro 6 models. The highest double cab payload rating of this era is 1,217kg, substantially more than most competitors.

The arrival of the 2.0-litre EcoBlue engines in 2019 and an associated increase in available equipment has had a negative impact on payload, though, as it now ranges from 1,024kg to 1,252kg

The greatest payload a 2019-on Ranger Double Cab can carry is 1,140kg.

The maximum roof load, essential if you intend to equip the vehicle with roof-mounted storage, is rated at 80kg.

What is the towing capacity of the Ford Ranger?

The Ranger's towing capacity is also impressively immense, ranging from 1,800kg to 3,500kg for braked trailers; that's 1.8 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes.

For 2019-onwards versions, towing rating varies from 2,500kg to 3,500kg, with only the very entry-level Regular Cab and the high-performance Raptor failing to make the 3.5-tonne benchmark.

The unbraked towing weight is 750kg across the board.
