Suzuki Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle dimensions (2021-on)
The Suzuki Jimny LCV is a commercial 4x4 version of the Jimny passenger car – which it effectively replaces as the passenger model is no longer available to buy new. This page covers all the major exterior and load area dimensions, plus explains its payload ratings and towing capacity.
For details of what it’s like to drive, standard equipment and value, see our main Suzuki Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle review page.
The Suzuki Jimny commercial 4x4 comes in only one bodysize, and a particularly small one at that. This makes it nimble off-road, where it excels, but not especially practical as a substitute for a conventional van – as it can neither carry large volumes nor heavy payloads.
The difference between this and the passenger version is simply that the rear seats have been removed and replaced with a flat load space, with a metal, part-mesh bulkhead keeping items in the back from interfering with the passengers in the front.
Unlike other commercial 4x4s, Suzuki hasn’t even seen fit to blank out the rear side windows.
Suzuki Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle exterior dimensions
These are the exterior dimensions of the Jimny commercial 4x4:
- Exterior length to rear bumper: 3,480mm
- Exterior length to end spare wheel cover: 3,645mm
- Exterior height: 1,720mm
- Exterior width: 1,645mm
Suzuki Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle load area dimension
These are the load space dimensions for the Jimny commercial 4x4:
- Maximum load length: 916mm
- Maximum load height: 913mm
- Maximum load width: 1,300mm
- Maximum load volume: 863 litres (0.863 cubic metres)
As you can probably tell, the cargo area of the Jimny is almost square, and there’s little intrusion from the wheelarches (Suzuki wasn’t able to provide the distance between these).
The amount of space in the back is 33 litres more than in the Jimny passenger car with the rear seats folded, but still less than the space available in the back of a Ford Fiesta Van, let alone any rival commercial 4x4.
A couple of other things to consider. The rear door is hinged at one side, making access tricky in some situations. And the load area is quite a long way from the ground, so getheavy objects may be a pain – not that the Jimny can carry particularly heavy objects, as we’re about to see…
This is not the vehicle to buy if you need to carry heavy tools and equipment off-road…
Suzuki Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle payload
The official payload of the Suzuki Jimny is just 150kg.
Taking the Fiesta Van as a point of comparison again, the minimum payload one of those can carry is 508kg, while the Jimny van’s nearest direct rival, the Dacia Duster Commercial, can carry a minimum of 486kg (and has nearly double the load space).
However, it’s worth noting that the 150kg figure for the Jimny is specially the amount it can carry in the load space.
So you may not need to subtract the weight of the driver and passenger from that, as there’s still quite a bit of headroom between the basic kerbweight (1,090kg) and the official gross vehicle weight (1,435kg – the GVW being the total legally allow weight of the vehicle and everything on board, including the people).
Suzuki Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle towing capacity
The Jimny LCV can officially tow 350kg with an unbraked trailer and 1,350kg with a braked trailer.
These are not especially impressive figures, but remember that the Jimny really is a very small van.
