Volkswagen Transporter (2025-on) dimensions
There are two different lengths of the Volkswagen Transporter and only one height to start off with. This will change come the start of 2026 when a higher roof model is added to the range.
Volkswagen is keeping the range simple, with the panel van making up the core of the range. While there will be a Kombi and a Double-cab-in-van joining the range, there are no plans to bring the innovative L-shaped bulkhead Multicab version from the Transit Custom, which is a bit of a shame.
As has often been the case, VW is offering a range of different gross-vehicle weights, with different payload and towing abilities as a result.
The standard height VW Transporter is designed to be able to get around town easily, with the roof comfortably under the 2m barrier that is common to plenty of urban car parks.

The loading bay is much bigger and more practical than it was before, having grown by more than 14cm between the wheel arches while it is 6cm longer and 5% larger overall.
This means that the Transporter is now able to take more of the features that tradespeople commonly carry. An 8ft by 4ft ply board wouldn’t fit before, where it now does. There is room for three Euro pallets in the back of the longer model too.

As is often the case with a medium van, there is a vast array of different payloads, ranging from 767kg up to 1,280kg, so it is worth checking carefully what the version you are considering can carry.
2025 Volkswagen Transporter payload
A lot of this is down to the gross vehicle weight of the vehicle in question, with the T28 only classified to be able to weigh 2.8t with everything on board, whereas the T32 can weigh up to 3,225kg all told.
There are variances between different engines and gearboxes, too, with the automatic costing you just under 40kg of potential payload too.
VW has also increased the amount that you can carry on the Transporter’s roof – this is now up to 170kg.
2025 Volkswagen Transporter towing capacity
Not all Transporters are equal when it comes to towing weight, too, with the lighter models only allowed to tow 2,000kg, while the heavier versions can tow up to 2,800kg. There are some that are only allowed to haul 2,300kg, too, so check the precise version’s capability if that is an important factor.
