Update: 2015 Volkswagen Caddy will be Euro-6 compliant
Volkswagen has confirmed that the unveiling of the fourth generation Caddy will take place in February 2015. Little is known about the upcoming van, although the new model is rumoured to have a much more productive load space.
Ever since it was launched in the early 80s, the Volkswagen Caddy has built up a reputation as a small and reliable city van. Its residual values are ranked the best in its class, so replacing such a vehicle is no easy task.
Productivity
Loading characteristics are expected to be the main focus of the development work. The current generation of Caddy will be 12 years old next year, and although the 2010 update meant it still looked good and performed well economically, the loading characteristics were falling well short of the newer competition, like the Vauxhall Combo, Fiat Doblo, and Ford Transit Connect.
The maximum payload, for example, is 800kg, compared to one tonne for the Combo, Doblo and Connect. Most modern day vans also feature wheelarch separation greater than 1,200mm, to accommodate a Europallet lengthways, but it is just 1,170mm on the current Caddy.
Headlights
It’s been reported that the 2015 VW Caddy will feature similar front end styling as the 2015 VW Polo. The slimmer and pointier headlights will be accompanied by a similar thin grille running the full width of the face.
