Avon Tyres has introduced the WM van tyre, which has been developed specifically for medium-sized vans ahead of the winter months. The new tyre forms part of the Avon winter tyre range which has been designed to provide excellent traction in all winter conditions.
Avon says it has developed the WM tyre range to provide van drivers and operators with added peace of mind. Featuring an improved winter tread pattern thanks to aggressively profiled tread blocks, a patented tread groove design and serrations on the tyre’s inner surface, the tyres should promote traction and enhance braking performance on snow, ice, slush and mud.
The WM tyre also has a high silicon content, which allows it to work against the “Magic Triangle” rule (the trade-off between tread wear, rolling resistance and grip) by offering low rolling resistance, but also low tread wear and plenty of traction.
“Despite the high temperatures we are experiencing now and winter seeming a long way off, it’s important to ensure our latest winter tyres are available to distributors and customers in plenty of time before the harsh winter months are upon us,” explained Jeff Schumaker, managing director of Cooper Europe, looking after the Avon Tyres brand for the UK.
It is available in a wide range of sizes (ranging from 195/70 R15C to 215/75 R16C) to fit the most popular medium van makes and models. Prices have yet to be announced although Avon says its dealers will be stocked with the new tyre from around October 2016.
