Alfa Romeo 146 1.7 16V 5d (1995/N) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Low price for high spec car. Pity about costs/faults.
Costs
Very poor service by two Fiat garages. Expensive. Several electrical and build faults.
-
On the road
Driving
Not as sporty as it looks.
Performance
Good 'warm' hatch performance though low gearing made high speed motorway journeys tiresome and costly in fuel.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Engine strong. Sun roof, windows and door faults.
Image
Originally prefered 3-door, but 5-door grew on me and is more practical.
Comfort
Very harsh suspension.

Security and Service
Security
Never any problem. F/F Alarm and immoboliser.
Service
Appaling. Faults unfixed. No advice on changing timing belt/chain resulting in £2.5k engine rebuild.

Problems and Ownership

Specialists recommend 44k mile belt change, manufacturer says much higher. Wrong!
