Alfa Romeo 156 Saloon 1.8 TS 16V Lusso 4d (1999/S) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
All models suffer huge depreciation which means excellent value a few years down the line, a lot of flash for not much cash.
Costs
Fuel economy heavy for a 4 cylinder motor, parts prices can induce a sharp intake of breath.
-
On the road
Driving
Pretty good but not as sporty as image suggests, mondeo has better handling and ride (really).
Performance
Good acceleration for a 1.8 litre, loves to rev, crisp response, rasp from exhaust, if only the chassis matched the engine.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Cross fingers so far so good, but i have good breakdown cover on standby
Image
One of the best looking cars designed in the last 20 years.
Comfort
Lovely interior, very stylish, lusso pack gives classy wooden steering wheel and interior trim, seats good, pedals slightly offset, fidgety ride at low speeds.

Security and Service
Security
Fingers crossed, not yet tested but built in alarm with l.e.d. light on dash should help.
Service
Parts pricey, dealers shrug their shoulders
-
Problems and Ownership

Can be hesitant at low revs when cold.

Sunroof whistles when closed, replacing fuses is a joke, fuse boxes all over the car, not just in one place.
