Summary
What does this car say about you?
I don't care, I just love the car. I suppose it's a cool car to own because it's so beautiful to look at.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
I think they're a bit jealous really from a drivers point of view. from a passenger point of view, i think some would prefer more room in the back, especially as I'm 1.9m in height.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Definitely, but now that the 159 is out I'd have one of those (with the same 1.9 JTD MJET engine)
What are you likely to buy next?
An Alfa 159 (or Brera)

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchise
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£16,000
When did you buy the car?
December 2005
Did you get a good deal and why?
The 156 had finished production (159 due) and the dealers were trying to get rid of 156 stock
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I have had 2 previous 156s and loved them both. All the rivals just seem boring.
What was the dealer like?
Excellent. Very helpful.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Fantastic to drive as my previous 156s. Sharp handling, great performance from the 150bhp diesel, which has great torque and it's a smooth engine too, once it's warmed up. The hard suspension won't suit everyone and it gets unsettled over poor surfaces, but it gets better the harder you drive it. Smooth as silk on a good motorway/A-road, I never get out feeling tired and always look forward to driving it.
What's it like to park?
Not too bad, doesn't have the best steering lock in the world though.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Quite a few minor things. The worst being a engine management detected faulty turbo AGR airvalve - the car drove fine despite this. Also ashtray broke, ventilator pipe not correctly fitted and a defective fan belt pulley. All changed under warranty.
What's most practical about your car?
Good boot space and superbly ergonomic driving position
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The computer that tells me I'm doing 52mpg on average.
