Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 V6 Super 4d (Airbag) (1996/N) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Buy cheap used now. 'Super' has extras you might expect in more ordinary cars these days - abs, a/c, elec seats...
Costs
Parts not cheap DIY hard even for mundane tasks such as changing headlamp bulb labour-intensive servicing expensive. LPG keeps fuel costs down.

On the road
Driving
Very sharp handling tight corners, always in touch with the road. Front w/d understeers only at extremes. Engine doesn't seem to cruise - always retains urgency - can be hard to relax...
Performance
Very powerful engine only slightly hindered by heavy body. Great acceleration seemingly no limit to this car's lust for speed.

Living with it
Reliability
Minor electrical problems - clock & a/c lcd display mechanically very sound.
Image
It's getting on in age, but still a looker, and far less common than newer Alfa's.
Comfort
Large cabin, front and rear, huge boot, wooden wheel & gearknob, nice touch. Shame no cruise control.

Security and Service
Security
Good alarm chip-in-key immobiliser effective.
Service
Hard to find a trustworthy mechanic comfortable with Alfa's who won't cost an arm and a leg…
