Alfa Romeo Giulietta (2010 - 2020) 2.0 JTDM-2 (140bhp) Veloce 5d Owner Review

In their own words
Cost £2200 in 2019 at 138k miles. Now covered 155k miles. This car drives well for a rather non-sporty 140bhp diesel, but 60 mpg and £35 a year for road tax makes it cheap to run. Its a comfy car, not as nice as me Saab Convertible or my Sportwagon, but very Alfa like in its DNA despite the Fiat engine and GM build quality.
There some frustrating mechanical and electric features - for example, the tailgate wires are prone to snapping (but cost me nothing to repair and improve), there are some cabin squeaks (solved cheaply using sticky back Velcro) and the oil filter and fuel filter are in ridiculous positions.
As a mechanically minded soul I've found it cheap and easy to change coil springs, brakes and wishbones, all of which were fairly well used by 155k miles. I like the turbo location which makes annual inspection easy, and I like the six speed box. Clutch components seem weak and my car is on it's second with a noisy thrust bearing, but I can live with it for another 12 months.
All in all these are cheap to buy and cheap to run, in fact I've recently been offered more for mine than I paid for it four years ago. Be careful what spec you go for and look out for modified cars. The JTDM is capable of delivering huge torque when remapped, that clutch won't last long if you intend using all the power.
