Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 TS 16V Lusso 2d (2001/Y) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
A lot of car for the money. 'Lusso' spec a must.
Costs
Parts can be expensive and local, specialist knowledge can be hard to come by.
-
On the road
Driving
Great sounding engine/feel good factor - too much scuttle shake on B roads.
Performance
Better than it looks on paper and accompanied by the character lacking in German rivals.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Unreliability is exaggerated/minor niggles are not. Get a warranty if you can, if only for peace of mind.
Image
The shape has been around a long time. Some bigots think Alfa=Rusty and sneer - but it IS a cool car.
Comfort
I'm almost 6ft 5 and find the car short on headroom (with the roof up!). Poor visibility through the rear window can be tiring at night and in wet weather.

Security and Service
Security
Its a cloth-roofed convertible…otherwise fine.
Service
GREAT service from specialists POOR service from main Dealers. Servicing costs vary enormously.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Nothing. Uses oil and level needs watching. Get cambelt changed well before manufacturer's recommendation or on a time expired basis, not on mileage.
Other
LCD speedo played-up and showed 800k+ miles! Costs £420 and a good reason for a warranty. Whole console can be replaced in 20 minutes.
Ownership
