Alfa Romeo Spider (2007 - 2010) 1.75 TBi 2d Owner Review

In their own words
As an regular Alfa buyer that owned many 'conventional' Alfas and used to their little niggles and joys they offer in abundance to everyday motoring, this was my first foray in a sporty Alfa convertible. First, the (many) positives: a truly stunning car to admire with the top down (my only criticism is that the front looks too much like the 159, although still beautiful with elegant details). The 1750 TBi is a fantastic engine, slightly muted, responsive even from low revs and allows the car to accelerate without any difficulty. Compared to the previous petrol version (2.2JTS) this feels a much more athletic engine and is also lighter which help the balance and steering of the car. It drives and turns very well, as you would expect from an Alfa. Although not a nimble car like the Mini Cooper, it is a fantastic cruiser of country roads with the sun shining and the top down. The interior is also well put together with good quality materials and comfortable leather sits. The cabin is so much more interesting and special place to be in and drive compared to any German, or Japanese rivals. I found no issues with the available storage space considering this is a convertible. Some minus points: rear visibility can be tricky, although parking sensors are really useful. The hood mechanism can be temperamental. When the hood is up, there are some blind spots over both shoulders and can make visibility difficult. Gear selector is not the easiest to use, and can be notchy, especially when it is cold. It is a car that needs to be looked after well but in return it can bring many hours of great joy for those who are conscious of what you get as an Alfas owner.
