Aston Martin DB12 verdict
Put simply, the DB12 is the best Aston Martin road car yet. The interior is a major step up in quality and usability, with up-to-date electronics that no longer feel like a decade old relic. There’s also enough space to consider using it for a weekend away or a trip out four-up with the kids.
But it’s the driving experience that really defines the DB12. Happy to cruise along sensibly and comfortably or charge through corners, it has a terrific breadth of ability. It’s fast too, the V8 easily outpunching the old V12 whilst making some great noises.
A Ferrari Roma is more agile, although many will prefer the DB12’s heftier feel and less hyperactive nature. If you’re in the market for a seriously fast grand tourer, the DB12 should be on your shortlist.
What we like
We love the driver involvement at all speeds and the way it accelerates rapidly but with surprisingly little drama. It’s a great car to cover long distances in comfortably, yet it’s also great fun on a winding road.
The interior is the big news, feeling far more modern and luxurious with electronics that aren’t getting on for a decade old.
What we don’t like
Unsurprisingly it likes a drink, so it’s a shame the fuel tank isn’t a little bigger. Rear legroom is virtually eliminated with a tall driver aboard and some of the interior trims in our pre-production model were a bit flimsy.
