Audi 80 Saloon 1.9 TDi 4d (1993/K) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Cheap runabout for just over a grand - could do a lot worse.
Costs
Great on fuel (650 miles/tank), regular servicing cheap and long intervals, but parts expensive on the rare occasions it goes wrong.
-
On the road
Driving
Barge-like handling around town, but comfortable and refined on motorways. Long journeys not a problem.
Performance
Not bad for such an old car. Rarely runs out of steam.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Up to 163K miles and keeps on going. Very well-made, no rattles or judders, but was expensive to fix recently.
Image
It's a cheap runabout with a bit of respectability.
Comfort
Lots of room for driver, passengers a bit cramped. Decent boot space.
-
Security and Service
Security
Aftermarket alarm/ immobiliser fitted.
Service
Don't take a £1K to a main dealer - use a specialist instead.
-
Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Diesel pump - £600 (ouch!), leaks in cooling system - repaired cheaply.
Other
Engine undertray was damaged and fell off. Can live without it.
