Audi A1 S1 (2014 - 2018) S1 TFSI Quattro 5d Owner Review

In their own words
After trading from an A1 to the S1, you can most certainly notice the increase of power. 231hp in a quite a small package is amazing. Despite being a "Quattro", 60% of the power is sent to the front and the back can only manage 50% when the car thinks it's necessary but overall it launches off at any revs immaculately. On a long journey, I have managed between 33-35mpg, but the majority of the time around town I can barely hit the low 30s. This isn't a huge problem for me, but something to bear in mind.
Interior isn't a huge step up if I'm honest, despite coming with all the extras, though there wasn't really anything wrong with it in the first place. Fit and finish is very good and the updated MMI is welcomed. Sat nav, push button start, BOSE Stero, heated seats, multi function flat bottom steering wheel and folding mirrors haven't missed a beat. No problems what so ever. Though the DAB seems ever so slightly crackly on certain stations...
Ride is surprisingly better than my previous A1 S line, if you leave the car in Auto or Efficiency that is. Dymanic makes the car stiffer and gives the steering more weight, plus a sharper throttle response, but on our crappy U.K. roads you will definitely notice the car crashing in every nook and cranny.
I love the look of the car. The facelift makes the car sharper but adding 18" alloys, 'S' roof spoiler and black trim sets it apart. The main body is pained in "Vegas Yellow", (which I wasn't too sure about at first, though everyone who's seen it loves it) with a contrasting black roof, it really sets the car apart.
Downsides, well list price for my particular model was over £31k, though being a ex demo with very little mileage brought it down to a slightly more reasonable £26k. Expensive, but resale value with all the extras shouldn't be too bad. (Fingers crossed) MPG, could be better, but I'm not sure if that's down to me, as over taking is a breeze and on a twisting road is very fun. I wish the interior was a bit more special, but that could be down to the way the car is specked. Sometimes over very rough serfaces you can hear the odd squeak and rattle but I think you would expect this from any car.
Overall, I'm very happy. The S1, speed wise would blow the Fiesta ST, Polo GTI, MINI JCW and many other small hot hatches out of the water. I'm pleased with my choose, good job Audi.
