Audi A2 1.6 FSI 5d (2003/53) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
High cost, but best of the small car market.
Costs
A lot thirstier than you would think Quite high service costs (300ish for first service).
-
On the road
Driving
Refined ride, good road holding, feels quality.
Performance
Engine has flat spots and lacks power. Also quite unrefined and 'grindy'. Have driven 14tdi, which is miles better and nippier. Audi state to get best performance, you need top spec unleaded, which defeats object of claimed fuel economy.

Living with it
Reliability
Good, although sounds like a diesel when you first start it. Have only had problems with buzzing through rear speakers, which Audi cant fix & intermittent noisy steering which Audi cant locate!
Image
Looks great and is still uncommon - almost got 'sub-zero' on 'Top Gear's' cool wall need I say more!
Comfort
Excellent - interior is top quality, although matt materials do seem to absorb dirt. Nice feel overall, instruments very well placed. Rear leg room unsurpassed. Make sure you get the boot divider.

Security and Service
Security
Can't be stolen, unless you leave the keys somewhere!
Service
Good service, although they do attempt to fob you off with excuses.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Very coarse for an Audi, clunks on start-up, underpowered.
Other
Steering makes intermittent rubbing noise, feedback through rear speakers.
