Audi A2 Hatchback (2000-2005) verdict

Should you buy an Audi A2?
Yes, If you’re looking for a practical, cheap to run and distinctive small hatchback, the Audi A2 has bags of appeal in a quirky, fun-to drove package that’s way better than you’d imagine. It was so ahead of its time, that now – 20 years after the concept version was first shown to the public – it’s beginning to look incredibly relevant.
However, be aware that as a used car it’s obviously not without issues. They’re not all bad, with people complimenting its design and drive, but electric and mechanical gremlins have been creeping into higher-mileage examples, and you’ll especially have to look out for engine lights, worn-out consumables, and non-functioning full-length glass sunroof panels. We’d also recommend petrol over diesel – they cost less to fix.
But, yes, we’d recommend one. Just buy one that’s been loved by its owner, and remember not to pay over the odds – it might be heading for modern classic status, but values are still depressed.
