Audi A3 S3 (2006-2013) boot space, practicality and safety
The S3 inherits the Audi A3’s four-star rating out of five for occupant protection in official European crash tests. Six airbags are standard (twin front side and curtain airbags), as well as electronic stability control and active front head restraints which help reduce the risk of whiplash injuries. Isofix child seat mounting points and passenger airbag deactivation are also standard.
The S3 was originally only available as a three-door and the more practical five-door Sportback model didn’t arrive until late in 2008. The minimum boot capacity of 281 litres in the three-door is rather meagre in this class – most family hatchbacks offer well in excess of 300 litres – although it extends to 1,011 litres with the rear seats folded. The Sportback has a different tailgate as well as a larger boot and more rear passenger room.
It offers 302 litres of boot space while the rear doors make access much easier and are very useful if you have childseats to fit.
