The A4 wasn’t tested by Euro NCAP (although the 2001-2005 saloon was a four star car), but it comes equipped with all the modern safety features you’d expect, such as twin front and side airbags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution. All cars have a new rollover system, too. In the event of the car rolling, two rollover hoops are deployed, in a similar, explosive, way to that of an airbag.

Security is taken care of by an immobiliser and alarm.

Luggage space isn’t great – and it’s even worse with the roof down. Still, the rear seats can be used for stowage if there’s only two on board and usefully the glovebox can be turned into a mini fridge.
