Audi A4 Saloon 1.9 TDi 4d (1996/P) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Lot of car for money. Ex fleet with S/h.
Costs
Fantastic if you don't use main dealer, they are sharks! Time consuming, changing cam belt.
-
On the road
Driving
Mediocre, safe, predictable and slightly dull.
Performance
Loads of torque so effortless. Only 90hp so not riveting.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Fantastic, had a belt tensioner go at about 80,000 and now has developed the quirky starting habit, which is a known fault (ignition / immobiliser).
Image
Getting a bit old now, but was good in its day.
Comfort
Acceptable in front, poor leg room in the rear and not much height.
-
Security and Service
Security
Had 1 break in but the car and stereo still there!
Service
Used main dealer for first two services until was given a pre MOT inspection quoting nearly £1700. Got an independent garage to MOT for £300. Pattern parts much cheaper.
