Audi A4 Saloon 2.4 SE 4d (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Depreciation is suprisingly high, although it does have all the toys, it is the hardest car I have ever had to sell.
Costs
Very thirsty, very expensive to repair even at specialists rather than dealers and high insurance too.

On the road
Driving
Beautiful on motorways, not so happy around town. Has a very notchy gearbox and a snatchy clutch that you can never seem to drive smoothly. Handles well for its size, but I did lose the back end on a wet roundabout!
Performance
A respectable 8 secs 0-60, plenty of torque all the way round the rev counter, you can pretty much drive everywhere in one gear!

Living with it
Reliability
Probably the most un-reliable car I've owned, starting problems, clutch hoses wearing out and pumping fluid out, heater matrix pumped steam into the car too recently, which was a bit scary!
Image
Well its German so it looks good, but it has a bit of a middle management feel to it, the kind of car you see a lot of at the squash club.
Comfort
For the driver it's very good, plenty of adjustment all round, but rear space is the kind you would expect from a small hatch.

Security and Service
Security
Well mine never got stolen, factory fit alarm and immobiliser must work.
Service
Only had dealings for recalls, but they were done promptly.
