Audi A4 Saloon (95-01) rivals
Overview
The first A4 was a hugely important car for Audi. While it’s predecessor, the 80, was a decent car, the new A4 was a big step up in terms of quality, design and refinement. Most crucially it made buyers realise that were was a premium alternative to the Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3-Series. No easy feat. It was developed alongside the Passat and the A4 shares many of its virtues, including superb build quality and a wide choice of engines.
It’s quite cramped in the back and the boot isn’t huge but the A4 remains a great saloon.
