Other Audi A4 (2005 - 2009) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Good car for a young professional - perhaps a bit "too old" for me, given it's a big turbodiesel saloon car.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

It's an Audi, so they think it's flash because of the badge, even if it is basically a VW Passat in different clothes.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Not a saloon, too impractical and the estate is too big and too expensive.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Probably an A3 or a high-end Golf.

  • Buying experience

    4 out of 5 4.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £18,500

When did you buy the car?

    April 2008

Did you get a good deal and why?

As I was paying for the car cash out of an insurance settlement we got a reasonable discount.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    Wanted something bigger.

    What was the dealer like?

Exceptional, made the transaction pleasurable and painless (for once), and took a personal interest in us given we were trading up following our previous Audi been written off in an accident. As with all Audi dealers - servicing costs are hefty, I started to use an independent specialist when the warranty ran out.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Usual Audi nose-heavy handling, understeers badly when pushed hard, more suited to being a motorway cruiser than a drivers car on the twisty road. Low profile tyres hit the ride quality somewhwat. Very impressive straight line performance, engine pulls well and acceleration is punchy.

    What's it like to park?

Parking sensors are a must. Quite a big and bulky car.

  • Living with it

    3 out of 5 3.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Two oil level sensors replaced and has not solved the problem of the oil level warning system "crying wolf" when there is plenty of oil in the sump once you get past 10,000 miles after a service. Seems to be a characteristic of the 2.0TDI engine. Parking sensors stopped working at 62,000.

What's most practical about your car?

Folding rear seat was an optional extra on the saloon, and mines didn't have it. Very, very infuriating after a short time. I'd say stay away from any A4 saloon that doesn't have this vital option!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Climate Control (dual zone), really good standard fit hi-fi system.
