The standard Avant model was awarded the full five stars in the Euro NCAP ratings, and the Audi A6 allroad safety levels are just as high. There’s the usual list of safety equipment with two airbags at the front, two in the backrests of the front seats, two in the roof and an integral head restraint system that helps limit the effects of whiplash in an accident.

Along with the usual safety kit there are a number of more advanced systems fitted to the car. These include radar-based adaptive cruise control, a blind spot detection and warning system and night vision using thermal imaging. The A6 allroad is also available with active lane assist, which warns the driver if they are swerving in to another lane.

Audi A6 allroad practicality is one of the main priorities when customers choose this car. With the biggest changes coming in ride height and exterior styling, the allroad offers the same level of practicality as the standard Avant model. This means up to 565 litres of bootspace with the rear seats in place.

Dropping the two seats in the rear means overall luggage capacity rises to 1,680 litres. While the car has been jacked up a little to offer better clearance and improved off-road abilities, the boot lip is still at a useable height and there shouldn’t be any major qualms putting heavier items in the rear. The opening is substantial too, so fitting awkward-shaped items in the rear shouldn’t cause any problems.

Storage around the cabin is also good with sizeable door bins that easily fit a 500ml bottle and a large central cubby hole between driver and front passenger. There are also a number of options to help improve the car’s practicality. Buyers can get a tow bar bracket preparation kit, while aluminium roof rails are also available.
