Audi A6 Avant (1998 - 2004) 1.8 T SE 5d Owner Review

V reg 2000 year. Had the car from three years old and it was my review already on here some years ago. Kept the car for nearly 17 years and only sold it 18 months ago. Very few problems in all that time. Put two starter motors on. Needed the rev counter fixing, also needed a new fuel gauge. The turbo broke but the car still drove ok but low down acceleration obviously poor. Put a new wiper motor on and usual regular maintenance on the front suspension. Local independent mechanic kept it going for buttons. Reliable for long journeys but poor fuel consumption around town. Less than 20mpg around town but an easy 35mpg on the motorway. I put 100,000 miles on in the 17 years of ownership and if I had room for two cars I would have kept it. Still on the original clutch, exhaust and gearbox. Bought the car for £12,000 and sold it for £400. May well have been worth the cost of a turbo and an instrument panel for another 50,000 miles of motoring in a very comfortable and spacious car. Ideal dog carrier and cash and carry vehicle. They are cheap now. The 1.9 tdi may be the one to go for. The 1.8T engine is very highly rated though.
