Audi E-Tron SUV (2019 - 2022) Technik 50 quattro auto 5d Owner Review

First all-electric car I've owned. Incredibly refined and comfortable vehicle and the interior is solid, but surprisingly also rather dull with swathes of grey plastic everywhere . All the switchgear, consoles and equipment have great solidity to them, but the centre console, although attractive lacks practicality and storage space. The boot is rather shallow and you will find the boot regularly refuse to close when anywhere near capacity. Audi do some of the best interiors but the Etron interior feels somewhat oppressive, partly because of all that grey plastic and because the windscreen lacks the depth of other SUVs and front view feels restricted. I have the base model (etron 50) and the real-world range is really disappointing. Charging the etron to 100% in the winter will only give you 120 miles max with careful driving and you can expect to lose 10% of that once you switch on demist function and heated seats! In high summer ( 20C + ) you can expect around 150 miles using AC on the eco setting. My biggest gripe with the etron is the poor execution of the EV tech. The MMI touchscreen interface is clunky and not at all intuitive which can be distracting whilst driving. Finding a charger using the MMI is a joke and don’t expect it to accept your etron charging card when you eventually find one that’s working. The dashboard virtual display doesn’t sync properly with the MMI or Android auto and doesn’t display DC/AC chargers unless you use the search function. Frustratingly the virtual dashboard insists on displaying all the petrol stations you could wish for instead! The “my audi app” is probably the worst app I have experienced, it’s not only laggy , full of errors but also crashes frequently and the web version is not much better . The Audi digital team are helpful and responsive (based in Germany I think ) but they can’t make up for the fact that there are huge flaws in the design and execution of the EV tech. The Audi charging service (UK based) is frankly appalling . Expect to be on hold for more than 30 mins every time you call and the promise of a call back that doesn’t materialise! My etron is leased but if I had paid £60K for this car I would be gutted! I am so disappointed I plan to take the hit and send it back when its enters its second lease year and change it for an EV with decent range and EV tech that actually works …..
