Should you buy one?

If you want a posh used SUV, the Audi Q5 is probably the best of the bunch. Audi sold loads, which means supply is plentiful – and it’s comfortable, fast, efficient and safe enough to protect you and your family.

Our biggest piece of advice would be to not get drawn in by the cheapest cars. They might look like bargains, but we can almost guarantee they’ve been run on a tight budget – and an upmarket, performance SUV like this needs proper care to remain reliable.

So, while you stand to save a load of cash by buying a high-miler, you could end up spending it on maintenance to get it working as Audi intended.

What we like

Audi’s 3.0-litre V6 packs a real punch. Team that with the Q5’s comfortable suspension system, and you’ve got the makings of an excellent motorway barge. We also love the Q5’s practical boot and we’re still impressed by the way it drives – even if it isn’t quite as exciting as a BMW-badged SUV from the same era.

What we don’t like

Rear passenger space is a little disappointing considering the size of the car. The 3.2-litre petrol V6 needs to be treat with caution, too. If you find a suspiciously cheap one on the classifieds, make sure you walk into the purchase with your eyes open.
