Audi Q5 boot space, practicality and safety

- Good rear space for adults
- Boot a little smaller than old one
- Decent storage options inside
How much space is there?
The new Audi Q5 offers a perfectly reasonable amount of space inside for passengers, and includes a good amount of space for those in the back. Adults can sit behind adults, with decent legroom that can be adjusted by the ability to slide the rear seat bench 60:40 forward or back. Headroom is good for adults, too. It does feel a little gloomy for rear passengers if you don’t specify the sunroof, though – particularly if your car has a dark coloured interior.
Boot space and storage
The Audi Q5 SUV has a boot space of 520 litres measured from the boot floor to the parcel shelf. It’s a good size with a wide enough opening, but it is actually smaller than the outgoing Q5 (by about 30 litres). It’s also smaller than the latest-generation BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC – the Q5’s closest competition. Naturally, this SUV version offers more space when you take the parcel shelf out than the Q5 Sportback model with its much more sloping roofline.
Handily, Audi has included a space to easily stow the parcel shelf beneath the boot floor, and there’s a very small load lip which will make carrying bulky items inside that little easier.
Cubbies and storage areas inside are generally of a good standard. The centre console between driver and front passenger has a small amount of space in, while two cupholders and a location for your phone are further forward. The door pockets are large front and rear, too – handy for big bottles.
Is it easy to park?
All Q5 models have 360-degree parking assistance, which includes all-round parking cameras and sensors. The technology on board also includes Audi’s Park Assist Plus technology that can automate some of the parking manoeuvre for you.
If you’re more interested in using windows and mirrors to park, the Q5 offers a reasonable amount of visibility for what is a mid-sized SUV.
Safety
- Latest version not tested yet
- Will likely secure five-star rating
- Plenty of standard safety kit
Audi’s latest Q5 model hasn’t yet been tested by Euro NCAP, but that will likely change soon. We expect it to score well, likely clocking a five-star verdict given the amount of safety equipment that’s standard. As well as complying with all safety regulations, Audi has included a range of aids designed to make driving easier – and give it a better chance of scoring well.
