Audi Q6 e-tron boot space, practicality and safety
- Plenty of interior space
- Good boot, but hardly any bigger than a cheaper Q4 e-tron
- Front boot (frunk) is an option
How much space is there?
The Q6 e-tron is a usefully spacious family SUV that will offer enough room for most in this class. There’s ample rear legroom for adults and a big boot, but the trouble is it doesn’t seem hardly any roomier than Audi’s cheaper Q4 e-tron.
That said, we still rate the Q6 because there’s more than enough room for adults to sit in the rear, with the front seatbacks well-shaped so that even taller adults in the back can position their knees around the seat for extra space. The Q6’s boxier shape also means there’s no shortage of headroom like you get in rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, although the coupe-like Sportback model will likely take a chunk out of the headroom on offer.
Boot space and storage
The Q6 e-tron’s boot measures a respectable 526 litres, which is a good figure in isolation, but only a tiny six litres more than the smaller and considerably cheaper Audi Q4 e-tron. The Skoda Enyaq also has a larger boot.
You do get standard individually folding rear seats, however, and the boot is a big square shape. Folding the rear seats down increases the room on offer to 1,529 litres. There is a front boot (frunk) available under the bonnet, but you can only have it as part of a £500 option. At least you get some luggage nets and extra storage compartments included in the price.
Though we haven’t yet been able to tow with the Q6 e-tron, its 2,400kg towing limit is quite commendable for an EV in this class – a BMW iX3 can only tow 750kg, while even a Tesla Model Y is capped at 1,600kg. The Q6’s £1,050 folding towbar could therefore be worth the extra spend.
Is it easy to park?
Yes, the Q6 is an easy car to park considering its size. All corners are quite visible and all models come with a 360-degree camera system and a ‘top view’ camera that can help to ensure you’re parked within the lines, or gauge your distance to objects on both sides.
You do need to be mindful that it’s wider than many of its rivals, however, with not too much spare room available through a two-metre width restrictor.
Safety
The Q6 e-tron performed exceptionally well in Euro NCAP testing, earning the top five-star rating from the safety organisation. It didn’t score less than 80% in any category, and received a particularly noteworthy 92% rating for child occupant protection.
The level of standard safety kit fitted to the Q6 is highly impressive, too. The full list of standard features are:
- Swerve and turn assist
- Adaptive cruise control
- Top-view camera
- Intersection assist
- Front emergency brake assist
- Lane change assistant
- Exit warning system
- Rear cross-traffic assist
