Gareth Evans
Gareth Evans, former associate editor
Gareth Evans is a highly experienced, award-winning car and motorcycle journalist and editor. His current role is Head of Digital (Motorcycling) over on sister title MCN, although he regularly contributes to Parkers and Classic Cars magazine. Over the years he's written for several other titles, including Car magazine, Modern Classics, Classic Car Weekly, Evo, Auto Express, T3, Jalopnik and Fleet News.
He's been reviewing vehicles for 15 years, having driven or ridden all over the world, and has an in-depth knowledge of what makes them tick, and makes people want to buy them.
Furthermore, Gareth is a keen racing driver, having competed in several of the world's most prestigious historic motorsport events, including Goodwood Revival, Le Mans Classic and Silverstone Festival. He's driven a variety of cars too, ranging from a 1947 MG TC 'George Phillips' special to a 1975 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 TT-12 Targa Florio endurance racer, and is currently driving both a 1961 Sunbeam Alpine race car that he owns (pictured above) and an ultra-rare 1952 Allard J2x Le Mans (below).
With all that in mind, Gareth's an expert in chassis dynamics, engine development, car ergonomics and of course history. But he's also keenly interested in modern engineering, from the latest in turbocharger development to sustainable fuels and hydrogen power sources. He drive his first electric vehicle back in 2010, and remains a commentator on the future of personal transport.
Gareth says "I'm a huge engineering fan, and that sits at the heart of my interest in all things cars. I love the history of development over the years, and looking at how things changed so rapidly, particularly between World War 2 and the 1960s. But I also love to help people, and that's what I enjoy most about writing for Parkers - it's the arm around the shoulder of the UK car buyer, and that keeps me consistently engaged and enthusiastic."
