Jake has been writing about cars for almost a decade, having started his career in automotive journalism in 2015, but has been a car enthusiast since before he could walk. Early in his career, he helped manage the websites, as well as write news and reviews, for Auto Express and Carbuyer. Jake then joined Bauer Media Group in 2017, starting as a Staff Writer for Parkers’ sister title, CAR.Read more
His current and main role is as Deputy News Editor on CAR. Most of the time, he’s co-ordinating and managing news content on CAR, but has done more than a fair share of road testing, driving everything from bargain superminis to supercars and pick-up trucks. He regularly contributes to Parkers, writing in-depth reviews designed to give you the best car buying advice possible.
Career highlights include driving a McLaren Senna on track, gaining an exclusive interviews with the CEO of Bentley and revealing all in a huge feature on the Dacia Bigster. On top of that, Jake has personally designed a Rolls-Royce Ghost, which is now out in the wild being enjoyed by its owner.
When he’s not interviewing an executive or out driving a new car for review, Jake spends his spare time playing video games (many of which usually involve cars) or building Lego sets – despite not really having any more room for them in his house. He can usually be spotted in the by the extreme-coloured trainers he tends to wear.
Jake’s top tops for Parkers readers are:
- Park the badge snobbery – sometimes some of the best cars in their class belong to cheaper or less known brands like Dacia, BYD, or Skoda.
- Always test drive – you won’t get a real feel for a new car until you’ve experienced it on the move. Remember to try to use the infotainment and as much of the tech as possible on the move, too.
- Don’t take the easiest deal – make the effort to shop around as it could save you money, or bag yourself a better car.
