Ryan Gilmore has been writing about cars since 2016, going so far as to obtain a master’s degree in automotive journalism from Coventry University.
As the Deputy Commercial Content Editor for Parkers, Ryan oversees all of the product testing and reviews for Parkers.co.uk and its sibling site, CAR. When he’s not knee-deep in snow foam or filling his own car with enough gadgetry to rival James Bond, he also serves as the Deputy Commercial Content Editor for A Modern Kitchen.
Ryan began his career at Parkers in 2020 when we joined as a Commercial Content Writer. In 2022 he was promoted to Senior Commercial Content Writer, taking on more product testing. Prior to working for Bauer Media, Ryan contributed to several automotive publications, including DriveTribe and Hot Cars, and even spent a few months working in Parliament as part of his politics degree.
Having tried as many car-adjacent products as he can get his hands on, Ryan has spent the last three years testing all manner of products to try and help guide you on what you should spend your money on and what’s not worth bothering with. It’s this experience that has helped establish Ryan as an expert in car care and detailing.
An unbridled car enthusiast behind the keyboard and in the real world, he's always been a passionate defender of small and lightweight cars. He's also a passionate advocate for cleaning and caring for your car yourself. The mere mention of a drive-through car wash can send his blood boiling and will lead to a 20-minute rant on the tangible benefits of a good citrus pre-wash, quality shampoo and ceramic paint sealant. He also maintains the Volvo C30 is a modern classic.
Some of Ryan’s top tips for Parkers readers are:
- Double-check whether a deal is genuine - brands will happily fluctuate prices to give you a false sense of saving
- Don’t be scared to try smaller brands – these are often at the heart of innovation
- Think about what works for you – there’s plenty of variety on offer
Ryan is an expert in…
- Group testing products
- Car detailing
- Vacuum cleaners
- Product deal hunting
- Hot hatches
