Overview
The Bentley Mulsanne was the Crewe-based firm’s flagship model between 2010 and 2020. It was designed to appeal to those looking for the ultimate in refined transport, regardless of how much it cost, and that was reflected in a £250,000+ cash price when new.
There was just one engine and one gearbox offered – the classic 6750cc Rolls-Royce-designed L-Series engine with updates and an eight-speed automatic – which were perfectly suited to the task in hand. Don’t think that the lack of choice in that respect doesn’t dilute any of the theatre this car creates for its occupants, as it’s a splended experience for anyone lucky enough to drive or ride in it.
Despite being generously proportioned, the Mulsanne was an impressively capable driver’s car – but more than that, this was a machine that majored in luxurious comfort, and even though it’s no longer built, it’s still one of the most accomplished cars you can buy, even if it’s approved used.
For that reason the front and rear seats rival the best that many airlines can offer in first class accommodation. It’s big, it’s bold and it’s blindingly expensive, but can the Mulsanne do enough to command an advantage in a market dominated by the equally exuberant Rolls-Royce Phantom?
