Economy
Value
Was originally a 30 grand car, I paid £5,000 for mine at 8 years old which I think is pretty good considering its a Beemer.
Costs
There's no point using BMW main dealers, so stick to specialists and save loads. Can be pretty thirsty when pushed hard, I average about 20 mpg (250-300 miles a tank) much better on the motorway though.

On the road
Driving
Lovely smooth drive when you want to cruise, but comes to life when you push it. The steering could do with a bit more feel though.
Performance
For what you will pay for one and due to the relatively low insurance premiums I don't think there a better car for the money.

Living with it
Reliability
Not anywhere near as good as I expected. Viscous coupling failed causing fan to crash through radiator, the resulting overheating cracked the cylinder head. Not cheap to fix! Also minor niggles like engine and gearbox mounts, window motor and water leaks.
Image
Looks just like an m3 to most people, you get loads of attention especially with the chrome wheels I put on, and everyone tries to race you! They always lose though, ha ha!
Comfort
Smooth on the open road but the M-tec suspension can be a bit crashy around town. The low profile tyres don't help! not a major problem though.

Security and Service
Security
Mine has an aftermarket system, not sure about the standard BMW one. Solid car to try and break into.
