BMW 3-Series Saloon 320i 4d (1995/M) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Quality of design makes the difference.
Costs
Insurance high, but parts can be bought for very little from the larger after-market dealers.
-
On the road
Driving
Very relaxing and smooth, but quite a heavy car, making spirited motoring hard work.
Performance
Take off acceleration not great, but can lift its skirts at higher speeds thanks to the double Vanos system.

Living with it
Reliability
Has covered 140k miles and still sounds lovely. Brakes replaced at little cost as explained above.
Image
Love or hate, the owners mentality can be a problem. I personally like the handsome understated looks.
Comfort
Relaxing and comfortable, but seats lack side support for cornering. Adjustments available are good.

Security and Service
Security
Post Sept '92, so has (poor) alarm and immobiliser, plus useful deadlocks. Insurance companies don't know or care about this though!
Service
Dealers costly. I use a superb specialist - who cares.
