BMW 3-Series Touring (2005 - 2012) 320d Edition SE 5d Owner Review

In their own words
Overall been very happy with it apart from the broken cam chain requiring a replacement engine at great cost. If the cam chain tensioner modification has been performed then this should not be an issue. Otherwise a good, flexible, economic car which is only recently (13 years old, 172,000 miles) starting to require a number of more expensive repairs. It is comfortable to drive, will still routinely achieve significantly over 60 mpg on long runs, and has a flexible load space, only slightly impeded by the back seats not folding completely flat. I find handling and performance good. There are a number of maintenance tasks that require specialist tools that appear not to be available at many non-specialist workshops, including for wheel alignment, requiring a trip to the main dealer, but these have only been encountered a couple of times in eight years of ownership.
How reliable do you find the car?
Cam chain broke, requiring a new (reconditioned) engine. Turned out it was a problem known to the manufacturers but restricted criteria for compensation. A modification fixes the problem.About their car
