Summary
What does this car say about you?
I am an snobbish idiot who was seduced by the badge. Please sell me Tower Bridge as I am so gullible.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Partner likes to drive it more than her own car. Friends and Workmates agree with me about the noise of the engine - think that it is overrated.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Absolutely not! Just because the Motoring Press drools over it don't be fooled. You can buy other cars which are better for a lot less.
What are you likely to buy next?
An Audi with a quieter diesel engine and a real gearbox.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchise
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£29,000
When did you buy the car?
September 2006
Did you get a good deal and why?
Slightly better than average. I had a good offer on an Audi to compare against his - so he had to give me something
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I had to buy a diesel, and I thought that the BMW / Audi / Lexus would offer more refinement.
What was the dealer like?
Good to deal with. "Hard but fair"

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Good acceleration and handling, which is why all the motoring journalists and enthusiasts fawn over it. Nasty turbo lag when driving around town. Diesel is OK on the M-way, but ghastly at slower speeds. Really annoying clatter. Worse than the others I test drove. Got seduced by the speed, and now regretting having to live with the lack of refinement! Wish that I had bought the New Audi instead.
What's it like to park?
Fairly Easy. I opted from the front sensors to supplement the standard ones at the rear. A real boon. Every car should have them. Turning circle not great, though.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Both doors on the drivers side are difficult to shut, as is the boot. BMW have failed to repair them. Squeaks from the dashboard.
What's most practical about your car?
The seats fold almost flat for extra boot space.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The remote locking mechanism - because that means that I have parked the wretched thing and don't have to drive it anymore.
