BMW 4-Series Coupe (2013 - 2020) 420d SE 2d Owner Review

In their own words
The manual gearbox is shockingly bad and I have had too many problems to recommend it. I cover mainly motorway miles and the clutch only lasted 15000 miles and the dealer didn't think that odd. Cold starting issues left me on the train for 2 days although this was cured by a recall when it went for a service and hasn't recurred since. Couple of rattles inside and the parking sensors like to stick on after reversing with that annoying bleep for about a mile. Windscreen wipers stopped working in the rain. No spare tyre. On the positive side it is a good steer on B roads and the seats are comfortable and heated and I think it looks pretty good. It is also quite practical for the type of car. My lasting regret is not specifying the automatic gearbox. When my car was in for a service they gave me a 3 series with the same engine and an auto and it was much better. That is the danger of short test drives for you. I have to say I am disappointed as my Dad always used to have BMWs when I was a kid and I had always had fond memories of them and they were reliable, which is why I was looking forward to owning my own but God knows what they have been doing since the80s / 90s because this car isn't a patch on them. I will definitely be looking elsewhere when it comes up for replacement.
