BMW 4-Series Coupe (2013 - 2020) 435d xDrive M Sport (Professional Media) 2d Auto Owner Review

In their own words
Owned from 77 miles to 93000. Best car I’ve ever driven let alone owned since its replacement (an m340i) - and even then, there’s still aspects in which it’s better than its replacement.
It’s never once failed to put a smile on my face. Less than 1 mile and all troubles have melted away.
It’s turned my wife who doesn’t like cars into someone that cares about what she drives. From being happy with a Honda civic (which was good for an a to b car, no complaints here Honda) to wanting something engaging and fun to drive. We genuinely cared about this car.
Anyone could drive this car. It’s rewarding yet looks after the driver. Feels very solid to drive. But I would strongly recommend adaptive suspension if potholes are prevalent in your locality.
Plant your foot and it sorts everything out for you. I’ve been going up a slip road with my foot in the carpet and hit standing water. Traction control cuts power to slipping wheels until traction returns. No drama, no tail twitch, just forward momentum. It’s absolutely brilliant. If you want the tail unhinged buy a m3 or m4. I’m happy with the model below that’s stops all that. Absolutely any day. Phenomenal balance of safety and power. Monster torque shove is a delight without feeling turbo lag. Sadly missing in an m340i but still a nice car.
Such a joy of a car but had to go because at some point repair bills will increase while depreciation accelerates. Otherwise would have gladly kept it. In 93k miles the horns failed and a bulb went otherwise normal servicing (oil, filters, brakes). I’ve had two three litre diesel BMWs with no real reliability issues now.
Have done drive days with low end supercars and wanted to get back behind the wheel of this - not kidding. Looking flash isn’t important to me, a fast, compliant and reliable ride is. BMW nails this. I like how they look, mostly, I don’t need to look unique. As an everyday / normal road car, these have the best balance of sportiness while tolerating the UKs roads.
Unless this changes, I’ll just keep on buying them. They’re excellent, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. I’m on my third bmw having covered 55k in a 2012 330d SE from new prior to this and that was nothing short of beautiful in every single way. The m340i I test drove first and wasn’t disappointed. The 330d and 435d I drove 4-5 hours to collect without having done anything but research online, hence taking the time to contribute my experience. These cars are genuinely excellent drivers cars with great reliability, running costs etc. but get one with adaptive suspension for the best ride quality. Otherwise the kit it comes with is largely down to personal preferences. I would say the standard headlights on the 435d weren’t great (xenon discharge) but that’s my only complaint. Harmon kardon system is a joy to listen to.
