BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe (2014 - 2021) 430d xDrive M Sport 5d Auto Owner Review

In their own words
I have driven BMW’s for over 20 years and struggle to keep anything else for long. I even had a cla45 amg from new and ditched it for another Bmw after 6 months! I’ve had an x4, 330d, m135, M3, 540m, 325, 318 to list most of them and before this 435d had an M4 convertible. The M4 was an amazing car to own but as a middle aged family guy it had its drawbacks. I made a conscious decision to cap my expenditure to a comfortable level and look for the best all round performance family car. I’d always loved the 4 series but I’d never really noticed the Gran Coupe. I looked at some reviews and stats and decided it should suit my needs, I wasn’t disappointed. Mine has pretty much every option apart from hud which I can live without. It’s as quick as the M4 in real day driving, feels quicker midrange with the x-drive grip. It sits happily at 60mpg on the motorway, has a better ride than the M4 and of course big boot and 4 doors. Don’t get me wrong it lacks the theatre and presence of the M4 but sometimes that’s better when you want to blend in and waft along. It has surprised so many cars. Cayenne gts, 5lt Mustang, m140i to name a few that have attempted to embarrass the diesel execs car then realised they actually are struggling to stay with you! I’m not a boy racer by any means but if you don’t enjoy spirited driving then get the 420d. Overall I love the straight 6 even in diesel form. The interior is comfy, hard wearing and quiet. The HK system is better than the Bose in my cayenne it’s a great car that offers an awful lot for not a lot in the 2nd hand market. Will struggle to find better for less than double the money....
