BMW 5-Series Saloon 518i SE 4d (1996/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Great value - good build quality refined motor, this a well put together motor.
Costs
The servicing can be a problem but I do this myself, it's not rocket science. I bought a tool to reset the service lights for £25. You can get BMW parts at very reasonable prices from reputable sources.

On the road
Driving
The car performs very well for its age. Now done 116k and no problems, a little noisy on motorway at speeds above 80mph. OK, its not the fastest away from the lights but if I wanted that I would be driving a Golf Gti.
Performance
Only issue is that it's a bit underpowered, but the good far outweighs the bad. Fuel economy much better than thirsty 6 cylinder models. I've had one.

Living with it
Reliability
No problems with engine / Gbox etc.Window wiper linkage worn out must rain a lot up North !!
Image
Its a BMW and a 5 Series at that the cream of the crop
Comfort
Very smooth comfortable drive with armrest down on motorway. Good driving position and seat adjustment, Speedo partly obscured as I am tall.
