BMW 5-Series Saloon 520i 4d (1995/M) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Getting cheap now - anyone can afford them.
Costs
Some parts expensive - servicing costs similar to Mondeo.
-
On the road
Driving
Precise steering, good brakes, decent seats. Magic carpet on the motorways.
Performance
Needs to be worked for rapid progress. MPG impressive for a big cruiser.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Some small problems, but my last one went to 186k miles no probs.
Image
Replaced too many times, still looks good. Changing owner dynamic due to depreciation.
Comfort
Effortless cruising, pretty quiet, no aches or numbness after a 5-hour stretch.
-
Security and Service
Security
Alarm and remote central deadlocking. Alarm closes the windows as well.
Service
Get called 'Sir' a lot. Quick and efficient - not too costly.
-

Water pump went at 102k miles. BMW cut costs in late 90s and fitted plastic impellors.
Other
Rear windows packed up at 103k miles. Computer problem - £300 to fix, includes 2 new motors.
