  • Summary

What does this car say about you?

At the time of purchase I think it said the owner was someone who wanted an inexpensive, well built, luxury saloon. Nowadays the car has gained a certain amount of "classic" status, which I feel it thoroughly deserves.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everyone loved the car. It was smart and classy.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would buy BMW, I would buy an e34 5-Series, but as it was rather thirsty and had a relatively modest power output so given the option I might rather a 525i or a 525TDS instead.

What are you likely to buy next?

I like to keep an open mind on that subject...

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £650

When did you buy the car?

    March 2009

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes, it was a whole lot of luxury car for £650. It had less than 100k on the clock and 6 months t&t.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I knew that the 5 series was a very well engineered vehicle, and at the time of purchase the prices for used e34 5 Series were very low.

    What was the dealer like?

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Proper BMW handling. 50/50 weight distribution gives you the confidence to really throw about a large car like this. Holds the road very well.

    What's it like to park?

Despite its size it was incredibly easy to park. There are large windows all round and the relatively conservative squarish styling lets you see exactly where the car begins and ends.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Needed a new thermostat and a new battery in the year I owned it. Both were relatively inexpensive repairs from an independent BMW specialist.

What's most practical about your car?

Huge boot and tons of legroom in the back.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

By today's standards there really wasn't that much gadgetary on board, just electric everything and leather everywhere.
