Economy
Value
Excellent value now - still a great car - service history very important, also try not to buy from dodgy types!
Costs
Reasonable even from main dealer, especially on 4+ scheme but can be snobbish - some independents also very good but insist on genuine BMW parts. Driven sensibly manage 27-30mpg or 20mpg with heavy right foot. Have managed 42mpg on 400mile run.

On the road
Driving
Superb ergonomics and drive, fluid and precise especially when unladen.100mph feels more like 65mph - be warned. Can be heavy on fuel but then its not a Micra.
Performance
Good when half full great when just me - laborious when fully loaded but still fairly feisty - quick in sports mode relaxing otherwise - can run out of road very quickly!

Living with it
Reliability
No problems in the last 20K miles - other than serviced once, set of tyres and brake pads - OH check air pressure and balancing is spot on or excessive / unwanted feedback, heavy steering etc...but this is true of all BMWs.
Image
BMW - Class, presence, longevity and driveability - older ones now 'beamers' - those in a 316ti with 18" rims - now seriously that's not a BMW, its now a Beemer.
Comfort
Excellent - seats a bit flat and leather gets slippery but better than an e class any day - excellent level of toys.
-
Security and Service
Security
Excellent - especially full closure sunroof and windows.
Service
Can be expensive - get minor work and routine service at BMW & everything else independently.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
None - bullet-proof.
Other
Routine stuff.
