BMW 5-Series Saloon M5 4d (2000/W) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Nothing comes close for the money.
Costs
Servicing, though infrequent, is expensive. Expect 20mpg for average mixed driving.

On the road
Driving
Fantastic - agile for a large car. Sport Mode is excellent.
Performance
Not much around (except a new M5) to touch it. Enjoys embarrassing Honda Civic Type-R's and other boy racer VXR type cars.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Few minor niggles (camshaft sensor, battery) - nothing to keep it off the road for more than half a day in over 3 years of ownership.
Image
As Clarkson said, the M5 shows that the owner is someone who spent a lot of money to hide their bushel. It's just downright 'cool' and demands respect from anyone who knows their cars.
Comfort
Eats the miles - 200 mile trip feels like 50 in a 'normal' car.

Security and Service
Security
Alarm and immobiliser plus aftermarket alarm system and tracker.
Service
They do make a main of themselves when it comes to the warranty. Given that the approved used warranty costs £900 to review in 2005, this isn't really good enough. Otherwise, good.
