BMW 5-Series Saloon (2003 - 2010) 530d M Sport 4d Auto Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
It's a great car. drives superbly, handles great, good boot space, tough car, very strong takes a lot of punishment and the second hand parts are cheap because there's so many bmws out there. the usual things break at 200,00 miles, turbo, oil cooler alternator etc, but the engine I can't fault mechanically.
You can fit a space saver wheel under the boot floor. Which had saved me so many times, as the run flat tyres are useless, spilt open first time everytime on potholes.
Weak points are front spoiler too low keeps catching on kerbs when you reverse off, if front is overhanging. Oil sump guard is not fitted great. So very easy to pull off on the crap roads we have.
Diesel particle filter, computer turns off the auto clean, if you have other fault codes in the computer. It can then become blocked and require a clean which is £400 or a new one at £1500, bloody nuisance
Runflat tires. Throw them away, absolutely crap. You can't drive home on them when the pothole has split your side wall!!!!! There only designed for a nail puncture, in 27 years of driving I've had 2 nail punctures and approximately 70 split tyre walls.
So apart from runflat tyres. Sorry my pet hate, and not giving you a spare on new cars, great car, leather interior feels like new at the mileage I've done.
How reliable do you find the car?
At 200,000 miles. Needed new turbo and oil pump. Front tie beam snapped due to pothole damage.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Goes off road up country tracks to near top of Scottish mountains. Takes a lot of potholes with little damage.About their car
