BMW 5-Series Touring 540i 5d Auto (1995/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Paid £5500 almost two years ago. Car was £41,500 in late 1995. Enough said really.
Costs
Not too bad. Most (but not all) BMW parts are reasonably priced. Have had to replace a few minor bits, but has just gone past 130k and still feels like a pretty new car. Economy ranges from about 14mpg on 3 mile work runs, up to 27mpg on a gentle motor.

On the road
Driving
My car has the M Technic suspension and for such a big car it is very agile. Good fun on B-roads, as long as you are wary of your right foot in the damp.
Performance
Very fast, although it doesn't always feel it. Once you floor it though there is very little that will stick with you.

Living with it
Reliability
No real problems. Nothing that has let me down. Might have to put a new air conditioning condensor in this week, but for £75 + VAT from a radiator specialist it's not too bad.
Image
I like the car and I'm not really concerned with what others might think.
Comfort
Very comfortable seats and driving position, but as someone else has said the ride on bumpy town roads can be rather firm.

Security and Service
Security
Car comes with electric locks, deadlocks, immobilser transponder in the keys and alarm.
