Summary
What does this car say about you?
More money than sense.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
My neighbour drove it and said "That's it. I'm having a Bimmer next."
Would you buy this car again and why?
No because it's discontinued and this was probably my only chance to get the car I wanted.
What are you likely to buy next?
Probably a Volvo. A demonstrator V70 ran the 5 series a close second because it was the exact car I would have chosen if buying new with auto tailgate, memory seats, adaptive lights. And a grand less. But the BMW drove so much better.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchise
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£0
When did you buy the car?
March 2011
Did you get a good deal and why?
The dealer had a choice of colours and trims. The dealer seemed to have bought the entire stock of run out 5 series tourers
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
The last of the E61 meant that the car was available with 3000 miles on the clock at over £10000 below list. Possibly my only chance to finally own a next to new Bee Emm
What was the dealer like?
Friendly and helpful but not urgently motivated to offload stock

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Gorgeous. After the X type Jaguar it's very quiet and refined, with loads of power on tap that seems to go on on on. Quite firm but not as hard as the Audi sportline which I couldn't stand.
What's it like to park?
Fine, sensors front and back with different pitched warnings for either end and a green- yellow - red diagram on the display.
-
Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing
What's most practical about your car?
Probably the self levelling suspension. Loads of things spring to mind - the i drive is great when you get familiar with it.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Love the folding mirrors, the internet interface, traffic warnings on the sat nav, the idrive, the storage, the app on my iphone (which probably proves I'm just a flash tosser who likes watching his car light up from yards away). The heated seats! The sun screening windows! The parking sensors? Dunno. All of them.
